CM Punk had a strong WWE run even if it ended badly, and these weird moments probably played a role in him walking out of the company.
CM Punk managed to leave a lasting legacy in two major companies he previously worked for in ROH and WWE, currently making a huge impact in AEW. Punk's decades-long career has made for some of wrestling's most iconic moments in its modern history: winning the ROH World Title and signing his WWE contract on it, winning the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank 2011 in Chicago, his AEW debut that launched the wrestling industry into a new era, and so much more.

While those moments are great, no wrestler is immune to having some bizarre moments during their careers, and Punk had no shortage of them during his time in WWE.
CM Punk's infamous Straight Edge Society ran from November 2009, to September 2010, which included members Serena Deeb and Luke Gallows. Punk would deliver sermons and would "initiate" fans from the crowd by shaving their heads in the ring.
While undeniably entertaining, this phase in Punk's career is seldom talked about now, but it did give us an entertaining side to what Punk can bring to the table, including a fun feud with Rey Mysterio.
WWE's version of ECW was less than memorable for fans of the extreme promotion. Regardless, Punk was one of the few bright spots in its revival, debuting in 2006 at the Hammerstein Ballroom, ECW's stomping ground.
Spending the year gaining momentum, Punk would square off against ECW Champion, John Morrison for the belt in a Last Chance match; an underrated bout. The match resulted in Punk winning the belt, reigning for 143 days.
Punk's World Heavyweight Title reign in 2008 is barely talked about for good reason. After winning the Money In The Bank Ladder match at WrestleMania 24, Punk cashed in on a weakened Edge to win the belt. The strong start however, was the only bright light in his reign.

What should've been a great way to establish a new star, completely backfired due to many of his title defenses ending in DQs, distractions, and having the champion feel like an afterthought over other feuds surrounding the belt. Punk's reign concluded in an anticlimactic manner, having him relinquish the title after Randy Orton and Legacy left him unable to compete at Unforgiven.
After his lackluster World Heavyweight Title run came to an end, Punk was demoted to the tag team division, where he teamed up with Kofi Kingston to win the Tag Team Championships in an episode of RAW.
While this moment may not seem "strange", it is surprising that both wrestlers not only teamed up, but even won gold together, considering where they are currently in their careers. The team of Punk and Kofi would only hold the belts for 47 days.
Real-life couple CM Punk and AJ Lee had a storyline together during Punk's reign as WWE Champion. At first, AJ would try and win Punk's affection, but later try to sabotage him as she became RAW General Manager.

This would also lead to a love triangle between the two and Daniel Bryan, until Bryan would break up with AJ after losing the World Heavyweight Title to Sheamus at WrestleMania 28 in embarrassing fashion.
Out of all of CM Punk's weird moments in WWE, being the leader of The New Nexus may be the most forgettable. After the once-dominant faction was stripped of its intrigue, thanks to their original leader, Wade Barrett losing multiple times to John Cena, CM Punk would take a crack at leading the "New Nexus" back to its glory.
Unfortunately, The Nexus had already run its course, and WWE's creative direction to its "new" iteration didn't help its case. Punk decided to target John Cena once again, with Cena getting the better of him and the rest of The Nexus time after time. Finally, WWE pulled the plug on The New Nexus, and Punk would move on to bigger things.
Punk's last years in WWE were some of the most physically and emotionally strenuous for him. Sustaining multiple injuries and being frustrated with WWE's creative and favoritism over part-time talents like Brock Lesnar and The Rock, Punk was already on his way out in early 2014.
Punk had sustained multiple injuries and didn't feel 100%. After telling this to a WWE medical staff, he was basically forced to compete anyway, leading to a match against Dean Ambrose in an episode of SmackDown, where Punk would accidentally defecate in the middle of the match.
CM Punk defended the Big Gold Belt against The Undertaker in a Submission Match at Breaking Point 2009, which took place in Montreal, Canada, where the infamous "Montreal Screwjob" took place at Survivor Series 1997. Thanks to this, WWE felt compelled to try and recreate that moment for some reason with this title defense.
During the match, Punk had The Undertaker in a submission, and while 'Taker never tapped, Teddy Long ordered the referee to ring the bell. Not the best night for either competitor, considering Punk's love for Bret Hart.
During his time as leader of the Straight Edge Society, CM Punk would not let one of the biggest matches of the year get in the way of his preaching.
During the Royal Rumble match in 2010, Punk took the liberty of delivering a sermon in the middle of the ring in between eliminating other wrestlers, annoying everyone watching. Thankfully, Triple H silenced him by being the next entrant.
Funny enough, Punk's final WWE appearance seems to be the weirdest one in his career at the Royal Rumble match in 2014. Being the first entrant and lasting a long while, it seemed that Punk would be the Iron Man of the match, until Corporate Kane of all people, eliminated him unceremoniously.
The moment itself wasn't the weird part, but rather the aftermath. Even though Punk was not in any title picture at the time, he was still featured prominently in WWE programming, when he suddenly disappeared and news of him leaving the company began circling, fans began to realize it was the end of an era.
