LISBON — A jury trial remains set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 8 for Naquan P. McCorkle, 36, previously of Lynbrook, N.Y., charged with attempted murder and felonious assault for attacking his roommate outside Lisbon with a razor blade in 2020.
“There is no resolution at this time,” Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam said Thursday during the final status hearing.
McCorkle’s competency to stand trial had been at issue for some time, but Washam found in April that he was competent to stand trial based on a competency evaluation and a sanity evaluation requested by defense attorney Chris Amato.
The evaluation by the Forensic Diagnostic Center of District Nine Inc. found that he was capable of assisting in his defense, while the sanity evaluation indicated he may have had a severe mental disease or defect at the time of the crime, but knew the wrongfulness of his actions.
The second evaluation had been requested after an initial evaluation also found him competent to stand trial. Amato mentioned previously that he had been trying to get records from a New York medical facility where McCorkle had previously been treated.
The charges against McCorkle resulted after Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the former Trails End Motel on state Route 45 in Lisbon on Nov. 30, 2020, and found Brian K. Custer Jr., had been slashed in the head and back with a razor blade knife.
