Nix unwanted body and facial hair with these top-tested razors.

While a good razor can make shaving quick and painless, settling for just any old blade can leave you with painful nicks, razor bumps and ingrown hairs. The good news: Low-maintenance, silky smooth skin is within reach. To help you get the closest, pain-free shave of your life, our experts did the work to find the best razors for women that you can buy online.

The Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab has a history of testing and evaluating all kinds of razors and hair removal products, from bikini trimmers and at-home waxing kits to epilators and laser hair removal devices. To find the best razors, our analysts sent products to a panel of 191 consumer testers who gave detailed feedback (over 2,800 survey answers!) on ease of use, performance, safety and satisfaction. Testers used their razors at least twice and monitored their results for one week before recording their results. To put together the final list, our editors also consulted top dermatologists for their expert shaving advice, and considered recent GH Beauty Award-winners and editor favorites.

Ahead, the best-tested razors for women, including popular subscription-based razor brands, electric bikini trimmers, razors designed for sensitive skin, disposable razors and even facial razors.

In our most recent Lab test of women's razors, 89% of testers agreed that the Athena Club razor was best at shaving hair in one pass. It also earned a perfect score for maneuvering around hard-to-reach areas. "I like that it got around my knees and ankles well and gave me no razor burn," one tester reported. The only potential drawback if you're used to a lightweight razor: This one is on the heavier side.

This popular disposable pick provides a great shave at an even better price — a pack of three razors costs less than $10. Each Bella razor features four flexible blades, a coconut milk-infused moisture strip and a comfortable rubber grip handle for a smooth shave. This razor is also top-rated on Amazon, where one reviewer calls BIC "the only brand of affordable razors I have have found to not cause terrible razor burn."

This Gillette disposable razor includes a MoistureRich strip for a smoother glide on sensitive skin. Online reviewers say the razor is easy to hold and hardly nicks the skin. The razor also includes a pivoting rounded head for better control around difficult-to-reach areas.

If you prefer electric shavers to traditional ones, this one's a best-seller on Amazon, with over 42,000 ratings. With three independently floating heads, you can use this shaver dry or wet in the shower. It also comes with a pop-up trimmer for detailed trimming.

While we haven't tested this one in the Lab, one Amazon user calls it a "lifesaver for someone who hates shaving!" Another user who claims to use it for her bikini area says, "The pop-up trimmer handled some of the longer hairs very well... then the foil shaver provides a nice smooth shave."

Schick created the Intuition f.a.b. to cut down on the time it takes to shave, promising that its razor safely moves up and down without needing to be lifted from the skin (and won't cause razor bumps in the process either). Built-in skin guards made with moisturizing gel help for a smoother glide without nicks. In testing, our experts where impressed with this razor's performance, and one consumer tester said it "made short work of shaving."

Your first Billie subscription package includes a durable razor in the color of your choice, two refill cartridges and a magnetic holder for your shower. From then on, you'll get four five-blade cartridges as you need. In our evaluations, 100% of testers agreed that the Billie razor excelled at providing a closer shave than other razors they tried. It was also a top choice for hair removal in the leg and private area and got extra points for not irritating skin.

The Snap is a personal favorite of Beauty Lab chemist Danusia Wnek, who says she never travels without it. "You get the same performance you'd expect from a full-sized Gilette razor, but all in a convenient mini case," she says.

The case has holes in the bottom to prevent water from accumulating, so there's never any buildup from water and moisture strip residue. Amazon reviewers love this razor-and-case combo too. "I can throw it into my travel toiletries bag and not worry about anything getting nicked by the razor," writes one user.

Testers rated the Hydro Silk 5 razor the best at easily gliding over delicate armpit skin, saying ti was comfortable to hold and provided long-lasting smoothness. Like other razors, it comes with a suction cup holder, though some testers found that it wouldn't secure well to the shower. Some of our testers also noted that the razor didn't give them the closest shave they'd ever had.

A top-searched item on the internet, these Japanese face razors are easy to use and aimed to prevent scratching while shaving. Online reviewers love that the razors are "super sharp" yet fairly inexpensive. They love that the razors can both shave off peach fuzz and remove dead layers of skin if you wanted to exfoliate.

Equipped with roller balls and a finger-controlled handle, it's safe to say that this razor has the most innovative design we've ever seen. Some testers liked that it was easy to control, and most agreed that it provided a close shave. However, some testers couldn't get used to the design and found it difficult to use. But if you have trouble gripping a traditional razor, this might be the solution!

Navigate around skin with ease thanks to this reusable razor handle with a pivoting head. Overall, our testers praised it for its easy trip over skin, and it earned the highest score in our roundup of razors for removing hair from the bikini line. Its sturdy bamboo handle offers a luxurious feel while its pack of four blades, though sold separately, won't nick your skin. "I appreciate that the handle seems long-lasting, therefore, better for the environment, and the overall look is more stylish in my shower," says one tester. Keep in mind, though, that the razor doesn't come with a blade cover and when wet, the handle can become slippery at times — so store it safely.

Sometimes, a good shave is just as much about the preparation and technique in addition to using the right tools. According to board-certified dermatologist Dr. Monica Li, these are the shaving skincare steps you should take to get your best shave:

✔️ Wet skin helps soften hair and makes it easier for the blade to glide across. For a manual razor, Dr. Li advises never to shave on dry skin because it can increase the risk of irritation and cuts, which is why shaving in the shower or near the end of a bath is prime time.

✔️ Shaving creams, gels or even warm compresses prompt a smoother shave and support optimal hair removal. For peak softness, Dr. Li recommends letting the product sit on the skin for a few minutes.

✔️ Always shave with the grain of the hair. Otherwise, the tapered ends of just-shaved hair poke back into the skin and cause ingrown hairs. Avoid stretching the skin completely taut when shaving, she adds.

✔️ A splash of cool water after a shave reduces potential skin irritation. Dr. Li also recommends moisturizing to keep cleanly shaven skin hydrated and smooth.

✔️ Post-shave, rinse off your razor, and store it in a clean, dry space to avoid microbial growth. After about five to seven shaves, toss the old blades to prevent irritation.
