Trey Wade: 5 facts on the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball forward

When Trey Wade joined the Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball team for the 2021-22 season, it was his third Division I men's basketball program. 

Wade started his college career at UTEP. He was at UTEP from 2016-18. 

He played the 2018-19 season at South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Texas.

Wade wrapped up his undergraduate career at Wichita State from 2019-21. He then enrolled at Arkansas to start his master's program in adult and lifelong learning.

Trey Wade has received the nickname "uncle" from his Arkansas Razorbacks teammates. 

Arkansas guard Au'Diese Toney gave an explanation for the nickname. 

"Trey's the uncle of the team," Toney said to 247Sports in January. "He's like an old man. He's always the vocal leader. If he sees something, he’s always going to point it out and let you know, just the way an uncle does. Like if he sees his nephews doing something they don’t need to be doing, he’s going to address it right away."

During the Arkansas vs. Gonzaga game in the 2022 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, Dwyane Wade noticed the play of Trey Wade for the Razorbacks.

Dwyane Wade tweeted early in the game, "Watching the Arkansas vs Gonz game and seeing the number 3 with the Wade name is dope!!!"

Trey Wade noticed Dwyane Wade's tweet after the game, and Trey Wade quote tweeted with a goat emoji and lightning bolt emoji.

On the day after the game, Dwyane Wade responded to Arkansas coach Eric Musselman on Twitter and said, "Big Win Coach! You’re smart; you have a Wade on your team @treywade35"

Trey Wade had 15 points and seven rebounds as Arkansas beat Gonzaga 74-68 in the Sweet 16 on March 24, 2022.

After Trey Wade finished his bachelor's degree at Wichita State, he signed to play his final season of eligibility for Steve Alford at Nevada.

"I love his toughness, and I love how he's a winner," Alford said to the Reno Gazette Journal on April 26, 2021. "Adding an older player who has been through it and been through the wars and has won is a great addition." 

Nevada SportsNet reported that Wade signed with Nevada on April 22, but he asked for his release "to be closer to his home in Georgia due to the health of his grandfather." Nevada granted Wade his release on May 10, 2021. 

Arkansas announced June 8 the addition of Wade to the Razorbacks team.

Trey Wade played for the Wichita State Shockers from 2019-21. The Shockers went a combined 39-14 in those two seasons. 

He helped WSU earn a spot in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, and Drake beat Wichita State 53-52 in a play-in game. 

Wade averaged 7.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 2019-20. He averaged 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 2020-21. 

Gregg Marshall was the Wichita State coach for his first season, and Isaac Brown was the WSU coach his second season. 

Trey Wade sat out the 2016-17 season as a redshirt. In 2017-18, Wade played in 25 games with six starts as the Miners went 11-20 overall, and he averaged 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.

Former NBA coach Tim Floyd was the UTEP head coach in 2016-17. Floyd retired six games into the 2017-18 season, and Phil Johnson finished that season as the interim head coach.

Wade left UTEP after two seasons, and he played at South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Texas. He helped South Plains reach the semifinals of the 2019 NJCAA National Tournament.
