DARIEN, CT — There were red and white balloons adorned around the entrance to Rudy's Grooming Club on Thursday, a men's membership-based barber club and one of Darien's newest businesses located at 1077 Boston Post Road.

Owner Radouan "Rudy" Yazidi and his staff held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the business's grand opening. Rudy's Grooming Club originally opened in May.

"I'm so happy," Yazidi said on Thursday. "I feel like this is a good spot for us. We're super happy to be here. I feel like I'm home."

First Selectman Monica McNally also participated in the ribbon-cutting.

"The Club provides a welcoming atmosphere as an upscale barbershop in the heart of downtown," McNally told Patch. "It’s exciting to see new businesses coming to town and I hope that the gentlemen of Darien and our neighboring communities will pay the master barbers at Rudy’s a visit soon."

Darien Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kesti Aysseh said the town is happy to have Rudy and his business in town.

"It’s a unique spot that I feel most men would really enjoy. As their website states, it truly is an upscale yet relaxed atmosphere with premium services. We are thrilled the three businesses are now open and operating in that location, behind the old movie theater."

Last month, La Taqueria, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant opened up at 1077 Boston Post Road next to Rudy's.

Laurent Lighting’s open house and ribbon-cutting will take place on Oct. 6. Details are on the chamber's website.

Yadizi came to the United States and New York from Morocco in 2006, where he had been cutting hair with European styles and even worked with Moroccan royalty. He moved to Darien, and in 2010 began working at Kennedy's Barber Club.

When Kennedy's barbershops were closing, Yazidi, who had owned a small percentage of the franchise, purchased the Darien location with the dream of opening his own business.

He retained the Kennedy's staff and changed the name to Rudy's.

There are family, adult and children memberships that offer unlimited services, or two cuts per month. A membership isn't required, but it's the most beneficial to get the best rates available.

Rudy's features several barber chairs, and a separate lounge area with a TV.

Along with haircuts, Rudy's offers a full slate of traditional, high-end barber experiences, like a hot towel and straight razor shave, beard trims, mini facials for men, and nose and ear waxing.

Rudy's also offers home service, and extended hours in the morning or at night to fit a client's needs. Rudy's can host special events or group services, too.

Rudy’s employs master barbers and cosmetologists who are highly trained in all of these services. Employees go through training each month to hone their skills.

Manager and master barber Erin Warren said the reaction from the community has been great so far.

"Luckily we were able to take over the clients for Kennedy's, so we had a starting base already. We've gotten more and more people coming in," Warren said. "I think people are excited for the idea of the membership and that it's a club, not just a typical barbershop."

Yazidi said Rudy's is more than just haircuts and beard trims. It's about making relationships with the community and making Rudy's Grooming Club feel like home for his clients.

For Yazidi, a dream of owning his own barbershop has been realized.

"It doesn't matter where you come from. If you do a good job and work hard, you do well," Yazidi said.
