Fake gold brick racket busted, 4 arrested in Nabarangpur

Police unearthed a fake gold brick selling racket by arresting four persons and seizing Rs 4.60 lakh in cash, a fake gold brick and lethal weapons from them.

Nabarangpur, Sep 8: Police unearthed a fake gold brick selling racket by arresting four persons and seizing Rs 4.60 lakh in cash, a fake gold brick and lethal weapons from them.

The arrested persons have been identified as Bashidhar Parida and Mithun Sahu of Ichhabatiguda of Nabarangpur town and Tunu Takri and Jatindra Khara of Khaliguda village in Nabarangpur district. Three more accused persons are still absconding.

Nabarangpur Additional SP Jayakrushan Behera informed about the fake gold brick racket at a Press meet here today. He said a youth of Berhampur was looted of about Rs 10 lakh while he had brought the amount to buy a gold brick from some youths at Nabarangpur. The fake gold brick weighed 4.3kg.

“On the day of Ganesh Puja, a youth of Berhampur had come to Nabarangpur to buy a gold brick along with a middleman, Mithun Sahu. When he reached the sellers, he wanted to test the brick. However, the miscreants didn’t allow him to conduct any test and, instead, snatched away all money he had brought with him to buy the brick. They brandished knife, razor blade and other weapons at him and snatched away all the money from him,” said he ACP.

The ACP said the duped youth lodged a complaint with the Nabarangpur police yesterday. Basing on his complaint, a special team of Nabarangpur police conducted raids and nabbed Mithun Sahu and other three accused persons.

Behera also said police would soon nab all other absconding accused persons as they have already been identified. “We will also seize the rest 50 per cent cash from the accused persons,” said the ACP.
