Ford's Electric SUV offers great range and attractive pricing, but here's what buyers should know before getting one.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the most popular choices among electric SUV buyers. Being a competitively priced offering along with having impressive performance and a long list of creature comforts, the Mustang Mach-E is a choice that is hard to filter out from the shortlist of prospective buyers. With the launch of the 2022 iteration for a base MSRP of $43,895, the Mustang Mach-E comes with quite a few changes from the outgoing model year.
Coming in five trim configurations, the upgrades for the 2022 model come in the form of a more usable battery capacity and slightly superior range. Along with that, there are multiple interior and exterior design changes that come as standard and with multiple appearance packages. The mid-spec California Route 1 trim gets AWD, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. Competing with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.4, and Tesla Model Y, here are 10 more things you need to know before buying the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Being an electric SUV with reasonably heavy curb weight, many would expect the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E to be mediocre in terms of handling and driving dynamics. However, get behind the wheel, and you would come out impressed, even with the lowest trim that comes with the RWD drivetrain.
Get the more expensive trims that come with dual electric motors, AWD drivetrain, and adaptive dampers, and the Mustang Mach-E takes corners with even more precision than the base trims. The sudden direction changes do not unsettle the car and the steering is razor-sharp. The sticky 20" tires also contribute to the top-notch road grip.
The 2022 Mustang Mach-E generates up to 480 hp depending on the trim that you opt for. If you get the Select or Premium trims, it produces 266 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 mph run comes in 5.8 seconds and the quarter-mile run is achieved in 14 seconds.
The more expensive California Route 1 trim offers a more powerful tune of 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. However, if you want to experience the most fierce acceleration of the Mach-E, the GT and GT Performance trims are the ones to get. Producing 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque, both these trims could do 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The initial and mid-range torque is going to be pretty scary for beginners and the passengers would be pushed back to the seat under sudden accelerator inputs.

Offered with either 70-kWh or a 90-kWh battery pack, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is pretty good in terms of the driving range on offer. If you get the extended range 90-kWh battery pack with the single motor setup, the Mach-E provides a range of 305 miles. However, the range reduces if you get the dual electric motor variant with the same 90-kWh battery pack.
The range would also reduce if you opt for the regular 70-kWh battery pack and the lowest you could achieve is 211 miles with the dual electric motor with a 70-kWh battery pack. Nevertheless, all the trims get DC fast charging and a Ford mobile charger. In comparison, the Tesla Model Y offered a superior range of 326 miles.
Even though the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is not the cheapest offering in the fully-electric SUV segment, we found the pricing of the moniker to be very attractive. When considering the performance, range, and the long list of standard features even the base trim comes with, the price tag of $43,895 is pretty lucrative.
Most of the optional packages and features are reasonably priced, and selecting all of these features is not going to break the bank of the prospective buyers. The latest Sync infotainment system is standard for all the trims, and the same goes for the massive 15.5" touchscreen unit. All of these make it feel much more value for money than the Ioniq 5 and ID.4.
The first thing that you would notice when you get into the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is the impressive height and ground clearance of this SUV, making it easier to ingress and exit the vehicle. The cabin is very airy and there is more than enough legroom and headroom for the front and rear-seat passengers for a comfortable ride.
The higher trims come with soft leatherette upholstery and the features like heated seats, heated steering wheel, fixed glass panoramic sunroof, and wireless charging add to the convenience and comfort. Since the battery pack is shoved into the floor of the Mach-E, the cargo space doesn't feel very restricted. The 29.7 cubic feet of cargo space is better than many of the rivals, too.

The cabin of the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes fitted with reasonably premium materials all-around and that is going to be a compelling reason to get the Mach-E over some of its rivals. The dashboard and door cards come covered in leatherette material with contrast stitching, fabric inserts, and faux aluminum accents.
All the touchpoints feel soft to the touch and the leatherette upholstery makes it look and feel better than the Volkswagen ID.4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. We also loved the chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel, large centrally mounted infotainment screen, and the tactile buttons and knobs on offer. The gray-and-black color combination is perfect, too.
Coming with multiple wheel sizes depending on the trim configuration that you opt for, we found the Mustang Mach-E with the bigger 20" alloy wheels to be a bit harsh in terms of ride quality. Some of the bigger potholes filter into the cabin at slow speeds, and the setup feels a bit stiffer compared to the ID.4.
Even the ride quality at higher speeds is not as good as the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4. Though the higher trims get the adaptive suspension system, the comfort mode is not going to make the ride magic-carpet-like. However, we found the lower trims that come with 18" alloy wheels to be pretty comfortable, absorbing most of the irregularities on the roads with ease.
The base Select trim of the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is pretty packed in terms of features, and many would find it competitive when compared to the similarly-priced trims from the segment rivals. However, if you could up the budget a bit more, the Premium trim is the one to get.
Offered at a selling price of $49,875, the Premium trim comes with many more standard features including wireless phone charging, panoramic sunroof, Bang & Olufsen audio system, powered liftgate, and 19" alloy wheels. This trim can also be had in either RWD or AWD drivetrain configurations and with the larger 90-kWh battery pack as well.

The latest SYNC 4A infotainment software powers the centrally-mounted 15.5" touchscreen screen. It offers an interface and features list superior to many of its rivals. This display is pretty bright and vivid, and everything is laid out neatly how it should be.
Even though everything from seat heating to climate control settings is accessed through this screen, we found the interface to be very easy to use. The standard features list includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, navigation, Bluetooth, and voice recognition. The Bang & Olufsen audio system offered punchy bass and crisp vocals too.
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with many standard safety features such as ABS with EBD, traction control, stability control, airbags, side-impact beams, driver monitoring alert system, rearview camera, and tire pressure monitoring system. However, the lower trims miss out on all the driver-assistance techs.
The higher trim configurations come with many driver-assistance techs such as automated emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert system, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The 2022 Mustang Mach-E received the 2022 top safety pick title in the IIHS crash test as well.
